What Makes an Effective NED
Jo gave a recent interview sharing her perspective on what she believes makes an effective NED.
Once, only the larger PLCs utilised the services of a great Non-Executive Director. However, this is now much more common even in the most modest of businesses.
The role of the Non-Executive Director is certainly not to run your business, rather they are there to support and challenge the executive team and to bring world and business skills while not necessarily sitting in the executive chair. A great NED brings contacts, a sense of proportion and clarity to strategic decisions.
The question you will ask when you have got used to using a first class NED is “whatever did I do without one?”.
